Go to COSE Networking Event

Here’s some networking events scheduled for the first half of October.

I welcome any guest comments/reviews of these events and always pass along any worthwhile events for business or job hunting.

Industry events

10/3 NEO Society of Technical Communicators Wine Tasting and Picnic, 3:30 p.m., Wolf Creek Winery, Norton, www.neostc.org. No mention of nonmember pricing, so double check. I went to an event years ago at Wolf Creek for defunct Association for Women in Communications chapter and liked the setting.

10/14 Lake Communicators Power Networking Luncheon, 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m., Pine Ridge Country Club, Wickliffe, $20 nonmembers, www.lakecommunicators.com. The president of SACS Consulting & Investigative Services will speak about verbal and networking skills, and attendees will have a chance to refine their elevator speeches. I have not been to any of this group’s events due to distance. Just signed up on its LinkedIn group.

10/14 NEO Society of Technical Communicators Networking Lunch, noon, Abuelo Mexican Restaurant, Warrensville Heights, www.neostc.org. One of my “Go To” networking events; don’t have to be a member to attend.

10/15 Cleveland American Marketing Assoc.’s Annual Octoberfest Beer Tasting, 5:30 p.m., Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery, Cleveland, $35 nonmembers, cleveland.marketingpower2.com. I have not been to many of this AMA’s events. If you can afford it, try to go.

Non-industry events

9/28 15in60 Networking, 5 p.m.-8 p.m., Quaker Steak & Lube, Valley View, $5, Contact 440-521-2245 for info. New entrant in networking events. Organizers claim it’s not speed networking and will be pleasant and productive. I welcome a review if anyone attends.

9/28 Twinsburg Chamber of Commerce Night at Blue Canyon, 5 p.m., Blue Canyon Restaurant, Twinsburg, www.twinsburgchamber.com. Free munchies. Monthly event that I have been to. Attendance fluctuates; my first trips good turn out, later trips not so good. Small business owners.

9/29 Northeast Ohio Software Assoc. (NEOSA) Networking Night, 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Hyland Software, Westlake, $20 nonmembers, www.cose.org. Definitely go to this if you want to work in tech. This group is part of COSE and I went to one in March.

9/30 Beachwood Chamber of Commerce Networking Luncheon, 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m., Beachwood Community Center, Beachwood, $20 nonmembers, www.beachwood.org. Another “Go To” event for job or business networking. Held quarterly; I went in the spring and collected a lot of cards. Seats by industry, so try to get them to put you with industry you want to work in.

10/2 Coffee with COSE: Social Media Strategies, 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., Corporate College West, Westlake, free, www.cose.org. Have not attended this COSE series.

10/7 Cleveland Professionals Group’s Networking for Good, 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, $45, ticket price includes admission to the Paul Gauguin: Paris, 1889 , www.clevelandprofessionals.com. This is the group’s last Networking for Good events for the year under its Cause Networking Initiative. I have not been to this group’s events.

10/7 COSE Swap 25/Power Networking, 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m., Champps, Valley View, $10, www.cose.org. No mention of nonmember pricing, so double check. Believe it’s held quarterly. I definitely need to go to this! Register early because space is limited. Previous attempts were thwarted because of my inability to make a decision.

10/7 Beachwood Chamber of Commerce Networking After Five, 5 p.m.-7 p.m., Melange Restaurant, Beachwood, $10 nonmembers, www.beachwood.org. I need to go to this!

10/12 Business to Business Show, 2:30 p.m.-7 p.m., Hilton Cleveland East, Beachwood, free, www.beachwood.org. I’m throwing this in. I went to a similar event and Solon and felt I did not get any good leads. Need a comment from someone who’s been successful trolling these events.

10/12 Networking Power Hours, 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., Cleveland Airport Marriott, Cleveland, $5. Another networking event that promises a “great networking opportunity to build relationships and make new business connections.”

10/14 Cleveland Professional 20/30 Club Networking Luncheon, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., The Club at Key, Cleveland, $20 nonmembers advance, $25 at door, www.cleveland2030.org. Guest speaker is Thomas F. Zenty III, CEO of University Hospitals. I have not been to this lunch series.

10/15 Business Expo, 2 p.m.-7 p.m., Don Umerley Civic Center, Rocky River, free, www.rockyriverchamber.com. Same comment as for Beachwood Chamber’s event.

10/16 Cleveland Magazine’s Best of Cleveland Party, 7 p.m., Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Cleveland, $30 advance, $40 at door, www.clevelandmagazine.com. Celebration for the magazine’s “Best of Cleveland” issue. Claims it is also a networking event. Go meet Cleveland’s beautiful people if you can afford it.

The past couple years I’ve attended the Business to Busines Expo sponsored by Beachwood Chamber. This is a well attended expo and has a good mix of businesses there. It’s not designed to help you meet other people. It’s designed to expose the chamber members to the attendees. Always lots of great food samples though!

    Hi Pat,
This is great information. I will be doing workshops on “networking skills practice” and communication clarity for Global professionals in the area. I’ll place your blog contact information in the handouts.
Looking forward to your next post.
