Plan Ahead for LinkedIn Networking

This week I have included a LinkedIn networking event. I have been to a few in the last year since they started popping up.

They are well attended, 400 + people at the larger events, and noisy! Although organizers attempt to plan for the large crowds, the event locations fill quickly.

My advice for attending these events: plan ahead !

  • Because these are large events, take a look at the RSVP list on the LinkedIn listing and pick out a small group (about five to 10) of people you want to meet.
  • Bring business cards to exchange. Include your LinkedIn profile address on the card.
  • Get there early and stay for just one hour. That’s all the time you will get before it becomes noisy and you are unable to participate in or listen to conversation.
  • Follow up the day after by phone or e-mail.

Pass along your advice for attending LinkedIn networking events or comments/reviews on any events.

Where did I go last week? I attended the NESTC monthly networking lunch, one of my go-to events, and Intro to PHP programming class at Cleveland State University.
